The Theory of Practice

March 26th, 2008

Reading bell hooks for the first time – i am struck by her passionate writing style and unconventional combination of the anecdotal with the academic. In fact, there are many such dichotomous entities mingling side by side in her prose. Not one i would have chosen, except it is taught by a lovely little man with an inquisitive demeanor. After the usual introductions and explanations, course objectives and topics — deja vue set in.

Background: Withdrawing from school and returning to my life as a lower class worker is a constant thought. Education is a sensitive topic for me, to say the least. I can educate myself rather well and despise the cost of paying an institution to document it with a slip of paper. Read the rest of this entry »
